Doesn't Pops look like Gabriel himself as he serenades his wife Lucille in front of the Sphinx? America's ambassador of swing was tootling around Egypt in 1961. Now this is a pyramid scheme we can get behind.
Satchmo blows eternally through
his recordings, of which we have many. Pick up a few, for then you has jazz!
What a great photo! Can't imagine Egypt was very comfortable in a heavy suit, or a cardigan.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great juxtaposition. Brilliance squared... Made me think of my favorite music quote: "Talking about music is like dancing about architecture." -Thelonious Monk
ReplyDelete"Dancing About Architecture" sounds like it could be a postmodern class at a small liberal arts college.
DeleteHAHA!! Well done. I'd totally take that class:)
DeleteHe seems to have blown the Sphinx's nose off! Mystery solved!
ReplyDeleteI'd be much more likely to forgive Satchmo than Napoleon's troops, who used it for target practice.
DeleteI had forgotten about that ghastly tidbit!
DeleteLovely picture. The peaceful atmosphere with jazz music makes it look like a very romatic scene.
ReplyDeleteWhatta smile..
ReplyDeleteIs the trumpet a respectably sensual instrument? I would figure it's no sax, but who knows! Looks like Lucille is enjoying herself.
Does anyone know where i can purchase this image as a poster? x
