Youthful authors

These are my favorites from a fun feature Flavorwire ran on authors' photos on their first books. Looking more than a bit Scout-like, here's Harper Lee on the back cover of To Kill a Mockingbird, 1960. (Photo by Truman Capote)

And looking somewhat more innocuous than his dark and disturbing books warrant, here's Stephen King on the book jacket of Carrie, 1974.
I think this is the author photo from Barbara Kingsolver's first novel, The Bean Trees (signed 1st editions of which are going for $450.) Her latest novel, Flight Behavior, has been garnering all kinds of buzz. To get the flavor of it, you can read the first chapter here.

  1. I hope you were intentionally making a pun when referring to Kingsolver's new novel. Buzz! Butterflies! Ha! :)
